Camera Gear & Creative Tools
SmallRig RM120 Light
Many constant lights are big and difficult to transport, but the SmallRig RM120 is a compact, rechargeable RGB light that's surprisingly versatile for its size. With adjustable color temperature, full RGB control, and a built-in battery, it's great for adding a little extra light to a scene, creating colorful backgrounds, or lighting smaller products. It's especially useful for photographers who also shoot video or create social media content. Here is my video review on this light.
Godox V860iii
A good flash can make a huge difference in your photography, and the Godox V860iii is a great option for anyone. This flash is plenty capable for full-time professionals and offers plenty of user-friendly features for a flash photography beginner. Its compatibility with Godox's broader wireless lighting system makes it incredibly versatile. Whether you're photographing weddings, events, or portraits, this is a solid addition to your lighting kit. Please note that different camera brands will require a different version of this flash due to the different hot shoe mounts. The version linked is for Canon.

Tiffen Black Pro-Mist Filter
Besides an ND filter, a Black Pro Mist is my favorite filter to use. It will subtly soften the image, reduce contrast, and create a beautiful glow around highlights, especially when shooting into direct light or around practical lighting at night. It gives the image sort of a blooming, filmic look and is a simple way to experiment with a different aesthetic and give your images a little extra personality. There are different strengths of this filter, and different sizes. I recommend buying a larger filter and then using step-up rings to adapt for different size lenses. I personally use a 77mm filter thread (my biggest lens filter diameter) with 1/4 strength.
K&F Carbon Fiber Tripod
A good, portable tripod is one of those pieces of gear that every photographer should have. This carbon fiber tripod from K&F Concept offers a nice balance of portability and stability without the weight of a traditional aluminum setup. The included ball head makes adjusting your composition quick and easy, whether you're shooting landscapes, long exposures, or setting up for a self-portrait. I take this just about everywhere with me and I love its durability and simplicity. Note that there are different sizes and weight limits available.
Everyday Photography Essentials
Thule Covert 32L Backpack
Please excuse how dirty my bag is on the outside. I play in the dirt a lot. Anyway, I've gone through my fair share of camera bags over the years, and the Thule Covert 32L is the one I currently bring with me most of the time. Whether I am trying to pack minimally for a flight, or I need to carry some hiking gear along for an elopement, this bag is a great choice. It's versatile with plenty of room for camera gear, a dedicated laptop compartment, and a roll-top section for extra storage. One of its coolest features is the removable padded camera compartment, which can double as a standalone shoulder bag when you don't need to bring everything along. With convenient side access and a customizable interior, it's a great option for photographers who need one bag that can handle everything from everyday shoots to travel and adventures.
Peak Design Slide Lite Strap
I’m not going to lie to you, I don’t use a camera strap. I stopped using one long ago, even at weddings, and I don’t see myself going back. But, most photographers are a lot smarter than me and do, in fact, use one. For those photographers, the Peak Design Slide Lite is a slimmer version of their popular Slide strap, making it a great match for mirrorless cameras without sacrificing comfort or functionality. Its quick-release Anchor Link system makes attaching and removing the strap incredibly easy, while the adjustable design allows you to wear it around your neck, over your shoulder, or as a sling. It's a simple upgrade over the strap that comes with your camera, and one you'll appreciate every time you head out to shoot.
JJC Memory Card Case
If you want an inexpensive stocking stuffer, a memory card holder is extremely useful. I have multiple of them. They keep your SD cards organized and protected from being abused inside of your camera bag. Having two of these cases allows you to put a green label on one, and a red label on the other for easily knowing which cards are good to format and which ones are not to be touched.
K&F Lens Cleaning Kit
This might not be the most exciting gift on the list, but it's one of the most practical. Keeping your lenses clean is an important part of maintaining your camera gear, and this little kit from K&F Concept gives you the basic tools to do just that. Whether you're dealing with fingerprints, dust, or the occasional smudge, having a dedicated cleaning kit in your camera bag is always a good idea. It's an inexpensive stocking stuffer that any photographer can appreciate.
Tech & Workflow
Samsung T9 2TB SSD
Storage isn't exactly the most glamorous photography purchase, but these drives are some of my favorite investments that I have made. This Samsung T9 is a compact portable SSD with 2TB of storage (also available in a 4TB version) and transfer speeds of up to 2,000MB/s, making it a great option for a working drive, meaning that you can edit directly off of it before archiving everything to a slower backup drive. It’s extremely portable and durable and can prove useful for years.
SanDisk Extreme PRO 128GB SD Card
You can never have too many memory cards. Whether it's having a few extras for a long wedding day, keeping a backup in your bag, or simply avoiding the constant shuffle of transferring and formatting cards, additional storage is always useful. I actually exclusively used my earned Best Buy credit card rewards for memory cards for years. Never regretted having more cards. SanDisk's Extreme PRO cards offer dependable performance for both photography and video, and 128GB is my personal favorite size.
Logitech MX Master 4
I absolutely hate the idea of using a trackpad for photo and video editing. Personally, trackpads hurt my wrists and slow down my workflow. The Logitech MX Master 4 is ergonomically designed for long editing sessions, with customizable buttons, a dedicated thumb scroll wheel, and the ability to create shortcuts for your favorite editing applications. The latest version also adds haptic feedback and an Actions Ring for quicker access to frequently used tools. This is one of those gifts that you didn’t know you needed, but once you have one, you couldn’t possibly imagine life without it.
Shokz OpenRun Pro 2
Shokz OpenRun Pro 2 headphones are a great alternative to traditional earbuds. Whether you are a parent who works from home, or you want to listen to music while out shooting and still be able to hear the ambient noises, the open-ear design uses a combination of bone and air conduction to deliver surprisingly good audio without plugging your ears, meaning you can listen to music or podcasts while still hearing what's happening around you. They're lightweight, comfortable, and offer up to 12 hours of battery life.
Just for Fun
Fujifilm Instax Mini Evo
There's something special about having a physical photograph in your hands, and Fuji’s Instax Mini Evo combines the fun of instant photography with the convenience of a digital camera. Unlike traditional instant cameras, the Mini Evo allows you to preview your photos before choosing which ones to print, so you don’t have to waste film. My favorite feature is the ability to print photos from your smartphone. While shooting weddings, I like to send photos from my camera to my phone and then print a few sneak peeks at dinner. (Read more about that process here) Overall, it’s fun and versatile.
Kodak PIXPRO FZ55
Sometimes it's nice to leave the expensive camera gear at home and just have something small and simple to document life with. Or, if you’re like me and love concerts, you can generally bring this one in with you. The Kodak PIXPRO FZ55 is a compact digital point-and-shoot camera featuring a 16-megapixel sensor, 5x optical zoom, and a built-in flash. It's nothing fancy, but that's kind of the whole point. It's lightweight, easy to use, and brings a bit of nostalgia to both the shooting experience and the final images.
DJI Mini 5 Pro Fly More Combo
If you're looking for something a little more exciting, the DJI Mini 5 Pro is an incredible way to add an entirely new perspective to your photography and filmmaking. And flying a drone around is way too much fun. Despite its compact size, it packs a large 1-inch sensor, impressive video capabilities, omnidirectional obstacle sensing, and true vertical shooting for social media content. The Fly More Combo adds extra batteries and useful accessories, making it easier to spend more time flying and less time waiting around for things to charge. Don’t go breaking rules or spying on people though, because that’s weird and ruins it for the rest of us.
Oakley Meta Glasses
These Oakley Meta glasses would not have initially made my list, but then I was gifted a pair. Not only can you talk on the phone through these glasses, but the hands-free video recording makes them a very useful for photographers who enjoy documenting their adventures, creating behind-the-scenes content, or simply capturing those little moments that might otherwise go undocumented.
